Meet the Class
History
Kirsten Cecil
Kirsten is a junior at Radford University working toward a BA in History with a Public Relations minor. Kirsten is a member of the sorority Phi Sigma Sigma. Throughout the Fall 2021 semester, Kirsten has helped to scan and transcribe documents, in addition to helping to find research to add context to the letters. On the website, Kirsten wrote the introduction for the Emma Reed letter collection and created the military records page. At the end of the semester, Kirsten accompanied her classmates to present their findings in front of an audience.
History and Parks and Recreation
James Corrigan
James Corrigan is a junior at Radford University, and plans on graduating in Spring 2023 with a BA in History and a BA in Parks and Recreational Leadership. James, along with his classmates, conducted research into the various people mentioned within the letters. James created the census records page and the introductions for the Walmer-Reed Collection. At the semester's end, he presented the collection along with the rest of his classmates.

Katelin Hobbs
Katelin is a senior at Radford University. She is completing a BS in History in addition to Honors curriculum. This is her fourth semester working with Digital Archives and she plans to continue a similar study in the Spring. She has contributed to scanning, transcribing, and researching the documents we worked with throughout the semester. On this website, she primarily focused on the Family Tree research and the general appearance of the page. At the end of the semester, she participated in a presentation given by the class in person and via Zoom.

Michael Murn
Michael is a senior at Radford University and will graduate in the Spring of 2022 with a BS in History. He developed the Clara Walmer transcription exhibit and the methods and process page. He participated in the end of semester presentation on the Walmer-Reed collection along with his fellow classmates.

Blake Newton-Humphreys
Blake is a Senior at Radford University and she is working to complete her Bachelors Degree in History in December of 2021. Blake is a member of the fraternity Phi Alpha Theta (a history academic honor society). She contributed to this Digital Archives process by scanning, transcribing, and researching information that helped advance the process of historically accounting for these documents. On this website, she mainly contributed to the StoryMap page on the findings and research of Miss Emma Reed's letters. At the end of the semester, Blake presented, along with her classmates, their findings throughout the semester via Zoom.

Crystal Richmond
Crystal is a junior a Radford University working towards degrees in History and Political Science. Throughout the Fall 2021 semester, they have contributed to transcribing and researching the documents in this collection. On this website, they mostly worked on the introduction page and the Last Will and Testament page. At the end of the semester, they participated in a presentation given by the class about the Walmer-Reed collection.

Demiah Smith
Demiah is a junior at Radford University. She is working on a BA in History as well as a minor in Religious Studies. She serves as an Ambassador for the College of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences in addition to her mentorship through the Elevate Research Program. She is also a member of , an academic sorority. This semester, she has contributed to the overall research, transcription, and digitizing of the collection, but her primary contribution was compiling the Map feature of this website using StoryMap. She presented, along with the class, at the end of the semester in a hybrid presentation.

Dr. Roger Hepburn is a Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History at Radford University. Her current research involved the history of the 102nd United States Colored Troops during the American Civil War.
