Tell me how long it takes for mail to reach you

Dear Mama,-

                         How is everyone to night? It is beginning to get pretty chilly around here and a little fire would not feel bad. My how I wish that I were at home setting by the good old fire-place. Will be there next winter & part of the time if God is wiling, because I think this war is about over with. Then it is out of the Navy for mine. Don’t you think it would be a pretty good plan for me & be a farmer. Well  I do to, so think I will go out to Oregon[1] and take up or buy a good farm and improve it slowly. Grow up with the country that is me.

                        Well I will send you some more money before long. Just as soon as I can draw some more. I can’t haunt the port where I am very much, cause all of these foreign towns don’t at all appeal to me. Can’t see what there is to attract tourist. Unless it is just to have it said, that they have traveled in Europe. Well I have had my belly full of Europe already. No more for me after the war. I am Second in command of sub. chaser[2], and find it very interesting indeed. But not near as interesting as the dear old farm.

                       When you write to me be sure and answer the following questions. How is Charles + Ted[3] getting along, has Charles been called. Did Bess[4] get the Principal of that school O.K. Has Henry Smith been killed yet. Did you sell the car, How are the kids and grandmama?? Write real soon and also tell me all of the scandal in the county
