February 11 1918: Received Uniforms

October 20, 1918: Ford was overseas in Europe and he was a second in command on a submarine chaser. He stated how he does not really care for all the foreign towns in Europe. Ford believed the war was ending soon and hoped he could go home and become a farmer.

March 14, 1919: Detached from Naval Hospital, NY  and told to report to 3rd Naval District 

March 26, 1919: Started Temporary Duty on receiving ship after being discharged from the hospital

August 31, 1918: Stated that he was still on the Kearsarge and headed towards Europe. He was no longer part of the U.S. N.R.F. (United States Naval Reserve Force) and transferred to part of the regular Navy 

February 2, 1918: Acceptance of Duty as Ensign (D) Class 4 g.s. Signed the Oath of Office

January 30, 1918: Assigned to 5th Naval District, told to report to Annapolis, Maryland

February 2, 1918: Reported and arrived at Naval Academy, Annapolis Maryland. Detached from 5th Naval District

January 30, 1918: At St. Helena Training Station, Norfolk VA 

April 8, 1918: Arrived at the U.S. Naval Academy 

May 30, 1918: Completed training at the Naval Academy. Report to U.S.S. Kearsarge 

September 14, 1918: Received Certificate of Identification.

October 6, 1918: arrived in Europe

October 25, 1918: He was in Plymouth, England 

January 1, 1919: He was at Base 27 somewhere in Europe. Detached from Duty on the USSC #352 because of medical surgery. He went to Liverpool, England via U.S.S. De Kalb and then to a US hospital 

February 6, 1919: Ford was in St. Vincent's Hospital in New York and stated he felt fine. He was waiting for his instructions from Washington.

March 25, 1919: detached from duty at Headquarters 3rd Naval District and proceeded to 69th St. and Bay Ridge Brooklyn 

April 17, 1919: Change of Duty and reported to U.S.S. McCalla 

June 12, 1919: He was on the U.S.S. McCalla and planned to leave the next day to Ponta Degoda, Azores Island (Ponta Delgada). From there he was uncertain about what would happen after that. He had given up on getting out of the Navy 

June 14, 1919: He was in Newport, Rhode Island. He stated that they would leave for Europe tomorrow and the first stop was the Azores Islands. He would be gone for 6 to 18 months.​

June 21, 1919: Ford was still at sea, but off the coast of the Flores Island that is a part of the Lesser Sunda Islands. He was off the eastern side of Indonesia. He talked about losing heart and wanting to jump overboard. The McCalla was heading toward Ponta Delgada. 

June 27, 1919: Ford was off the coast of Brest, France where they were to report for duty. He complains that he has been seasick and does not think fondly of the sea. He also states that he still does not feel quite right after his operation and that he might need another one.  

June 30, 1919: He was in Brest, France and getting ready to leave for Harwich, England. He had an operation 4 days before (June 26, 1919) where an ulcer was taken off his spinal column. He stated that he was“not made for the sea” 

August 31, 1919: Resignation as Ensign 

September 25, 1919: Acceptance of Resignation and could return to home
