Mr Eldred,
My Kind Friend:-
Your gladly rec’d missive came to me only afew days since and of course there’s no use repeating how much I appreciated reading it. And to be sure I enjoy writing to you. But O how I wish I could talk to you now instead of writing. But Alas! Its only a vain wish after all. Although I’m still living in hopes of a better time coming.
Dont you think the sun has been shining over here for two or three days and the snow is nearly gone away only where it drifted so bad. And to day has been real pretty. (only theres no wind hardly ha) And so I went to church. I have staid at home until I’m almost a heathern.
I guess you understand why I’m so glad to see the sun shining. For I think the weather will soon be so you can come to Hylton. Mr Ell you say you go to see some body elses girl over there and you hope your girl
is at Hylton. O if its little me you are claiming as your girl. I’m as happy as a “june-bug on a pumpkin vine.” And I dont care what these other folks may tell me so long as you tell me nice things like that. You know I dont believe very much I hear no way unless its something you tell me yourself. You know I have quite a flattering opinion of you any way. But maybe I am telling you too much it might spoil you. I have heard of such being the case. Yet I’m willing to risk it spoiling you for you are not very easily spoiled.
unless I’m very much mistaken. Mr Ell its all right about the message. And please dont say any thing to Laura P. about it if you havent already. Of course I didnt take any exception to it. Whatever and first let it go. Of course we know their object in telling things of that kind or I do at least and will tell you all about it when you come over. I have been having quite a time with that some body since you were over.
I think they are both a little jealous hearted What do you think about it? Now I dont mean to say any harm of either for I like them both. And its not my way to speak harm of any body. O! certainly about the compliments I passed. You are very worthy of them all and then some. But first listen what a mouthful you said about me being a perfect lady in every respect. O! Very much oblige to
You Mr Ell. I feel quite elevated and why shouldn’t I? When it came from one whom I esteem so highly.
Well I saw Lura this morning and she was lively as a cricket and she said she wanted to come to Pulaski as soon as the weather got better. Well if she does what will become of poor me. I miss her so much when she’s not at home.
I hope you and Mr. Lowman can come over before she goes away. I told her was in hopes some thing would happen that she couldnt go. but of course
that was just from my teeth out. I want her to go if she wants to.
Mr Eldred I will have to close as its real late now. Write real soon
Your true friend
