Miscellaneous Women Transcriptions

In this part of the collection, we see letters and envelopes from various women to Ernest Balarzs. Based on one of the letters written to Ernest, these are potentially old flames he had before marrying his wife. We have provided a letter-style transcription for each document, below a gallery containing all of the corresponding images. In addition, the gallery contains the text associated with each individual image. For a full line-by-line transcription of all the letters written by these women, a PDF is available for viewing as well.

Dear Ernie,

Haven’t heard from you for quite some time. Are you pretty busy nowadays? You’ll be coming back pretty soon, won’t you? It just doesn’t seem possible that there isn’t any more war. Well I don’t know whether I have a job or not. I am  laid off until the 27th then when  we go in we may get laid off permanently. I don’t hold any seniority so I don’t stand much  chance of staying.

When Pres. Truman announced Tuesday with that the war was over I  met Martha downtown and we run into one of the fellows that goes to the roof and he was on his bicycle so we got one too. I got

                                                                                                               II

on the back and Martha got on the front. We rode all over town and it was really pouring down rain. We didn’t care. We were really  a sorry looking bunch when we  went home. I got my shoe caught  in the back wheel and tore the  heel off + ripped the back and the  side. Any way they are ruined and cannot be fixed. Shoes are still  rationed too so there went my

stamp. I went to town Saturday  and got more.

Wednesday nite I went to the  U.S.O. and danced about 3 hrs. Saturday nite I went again with  Martha and talk about dancing. I danced from 7:30 ‘til 11:00 without stopping except for  a few minutes. I hadn’t danced for quite a while so I didn’t  know whether I still would  know how or not.

You know I never did get a chance to dance with you.

                                                                                                              III

I only got 3 hrs sleep last nite as I had to go to work and  find out what was going on. So when I didn’t work I came back home and went to bed about 9:30 and slept until 5:15 tonite then I got supper and  then got out and cut the front

yard. Can’t you see me doing that? I did any way and I  was barefooted.

Our dog got hit Thursday nite and his right front leg is  temporarily out of use. The doctor put a splint on it for a week.

Are you still at the same  place?

By the way how yo are you doing now with the girls over there? Are you going to  bring one back with you or come back by ^ your self.

I just ate peach. Want one? They’re pretty good.

                                                                                                              IV

The roof opens in about a month then I will always be found there.

Don’t you think I’ve written enough this time?

Write soon. Don’t wait so long to write next time, huh?

                                                       Lots of Love

                                                               Betty

Dear Ernie,

I thought you might  like to have this card + stamp dated 1908. I  thought since its so close to Christmas, it  is appropriate for the  occasion. (Actually it was Ruby’s idea to send it as a Christmas card. She saw it when she was here.)

                                                        Sharon

P.S. Hope you all have  a good Christmas.
